CURRENT PROJECTS
Several trail projects are in process and will serve as the foundation for future initiatives. The current projects are already at various stages of planning or implementation, but completing them in a timely manner depends on donors and volunteers. Help us complete the work faster by donating or volunteering!
Hardening the Trail
Wet and marshy areas of the trail currently prevent it from being an all-season trail. But, with some effort and materials we can transform the soppy areas into passable passages during the warmer months of the year, meaning more trail use for community members year-round. We are beginning the trail hardening on the segment from Knik Lake to Fish Creek (approximately 3 miles). Future initiatives will harden other segments leading to Skwentna Station.
Signage on the Trail
Not everyone is familiar with the trail and its landmarks…yet. By adding signage, we ensure that anyone on the trail is able to maneuver about safely and accurately. Is your bsiness interested in being a sponsor of a sign, or maybe as an individual you want to purchase a sign to honor or memorialize a friend or family member? Email or call us for more information.
Hosting of Sled Dog Races
Because the trail is already an all-winter trail, hosting a sled dog race makes sense for Trailblazers as a public promotion of how the trail can be used recreationally. We’d love to see the trail become a place that hosts races for other groups such as cross country skiers or fat tire bikers. Are you associated with a group that finds that idea intriguing? Email or call us for more information.
